Mail Processing Solution from Engineering Innovation and Parascript Selected by Panhandle Presort Services to Automate Flats Processing

Longmont, CO, March 14, 2011 – Parascript, LLC, the image analysis and pattern recognition technology provider, today announced that Panhandle Presort Services (PPS), a complete mail service company providing mail solutions in Texas, has implemented Engineering Innovation’s EZ-Flats transport, which incorporates Parascript’s AddressScript as the only optical character recognition (OCR) solution.

Before implementing EZ-Flats with Parascript’s OCR, Panhandle Presort Services was processing flat mail without any postal discounts. Upon implementing the integrated mail processing solution, PPS was able to immediately obtain the flats postal automation discounts and achieve a return on investment in 10 months of operation.  Additionally, Parascript’s click model, with pay-as-you-go scenario, significantly reduced the cost of the initial investment.

“We considered presorting flats for several years, but the capital investment was too high for our expected volume.  It was not until Engineering Innovation presented the affordable EZ Flats option that we were able to venture into the flats market.  On top of the fact that we did not have the upfront equipment expense, Parascript’s technology also allowed us to read both machine printed and handwritten mail pieces.  This helped us to increase volume to even further exceed our expectations,” said Scott Coursey, vice president for PPS. “The ROI on this equipment is unmatched in our industry.  We bought our first machine in 2008 for our Amarillo location, bought a second machine for our Lubbock location in 2010, and expect to buy a third machine for our Midland location this month.  It’s revenue that goes straight to the bottom line.”

While EZ-Flats transport is able to process 700 to 1,000 flats per hour, it is also beneficial for mailers, such as Panhandle Presort Services, with smaller volumes of 2,000 flats per day.  EZ-Flats tracks every mail piece to its maximum discount level for easy verification and billing. The integrated mail processing solution achieves address recognition and interpretation rates of 95 percent on both machine print and handwritten addresses.

“We are proud to offer highly-efficient solutions for mail processing with the best OCR technology from Parascript, and make the business model appeal to all mailers,” said Ron Robbins, CEO of Engineering Innovation, Inc. a leader in providing solutions for handling outbound mail. “With our integrated solution, mailers of any size can achieve greater postal discounts and faster processing times with the highest read rates and accuracy.”

Engineering Innovations delivers the EZ-Flats systems with Parascript’s best-of-class OCR technology. AddressScript automatically reads addresses with the highest read rates achievable, greatly reducing time, costs and labor commonly associated with mail processing.  It locates and captures an address block on envelope, mailing label or flat images to efficiently process the entire mail stream. It reads any character type—cursive, handprint and machine print—in any combination to provide a universal address recognition and validation solution.

“Engineering Innovation’s focus on providing their customers with cutting-edge mail processing solutions bodes well with Parascript’s best-of-breed address recognition and interpretation technology. We are pleased to see so many mailers, such as Panhandle Presort Services, have successful implementations with our integrated solution,” said Kaz Jaszczak, director of product planning and operations for Parascript.
