3 Basic Rules for Capturing Clean Images

Image capture is the first step to successful document recognition. Image capture might not be under your control, but if it is, here are 3 simple rules to follow:

  1. Use capture-software preferred specs:
  • 200 – 300 DPI
  • Uncompressed .TIFF format
  • Black and white instead of color
  1. Avoid when scanning:
  • Skewed images
  • Scaling images
  1. Utilize state-of-the-art software features when the source image is not very good to begin with:
  • Use image cleanup if available on the scanner (VRS for example)
  • Take advantage of your intelligent document recognition software image cleanup tools:
